You may not realize all of the energy that goes into creating the items that you own and use. Click on any picture below to see a breakdown of the amount of energy that went into the raw materials, manufacturing, shipping, and disposal of the things you will use while at Green:Net.

About WattzOn

WattzOn is a free online tool to quantify, track, compare and understand the total amount of energy needed to support all of the facets of a person's lifestyle — with the goal of helping them find ways to reduce their role in climate change. Recognizing that it will not be possible to support the power consumption of our society with any energy technology that could be implemented in the near future, WattzOn changes the conversation on personal accountability away from the common "carbon footprint" and towards collective energy reduction. WattzOn shows users the baseline power that their lifestyle requires, allows them to compare their impact to others', provides visualizations demonstrating the magnitude of their energy needs, and ultimately fosters a community committed to energy reduction.

The energy labels for the Green:Net conference were created using the embodied energy estimator tool, which allows anyone to add and edit items. So, if you think of anything that's missing, if you disagree with any of the label data, or if you'd like to discuss the data with members of our community — visit http://www.wattzon.com/stuff. We're looking to our users to help add items from their own lives so that we can all gain a better understand the energy cost of the "stuff" we use.

Disclaimer

Because the data on WattzOn is always being improved by our community, don't be surprised if the information on our site is slightly different from what's on the printed labels.
